The Happening

The Happening, 2.5 out of 4 stars

Mark Wahlberg, Aslyn Sanchez and Zooey Deschanel are escaping from the city and found out what's really happening in "The Happening".

We've sensed it. We've seen the signs. Now it's happening. Actually it's happening now. This movie directed by M. Night Shyamalan who brought you his masterpieces "The Six Sense" in 1999, and "Signs" in 2002. The film begins with the people who live in America started to commit suicide. First, they're stop moving. After that, they'll find a tool whatever it is, to kill themselves. Many of them even their government believe it is an terrorist attack by using bio-weapon. Then the story now focus to Elliot Moore (Mark Wahlberg) a science teacher who is now have a relationship problem with his wife. After he has been informed the incident, he then decided to leave the town with his wife. Then the story is about how do they survive the attack, the problem they're facing and how do they solve it. That's all. What's really happening anyway? I won't give out much of the information but I'll give you a hint. There is a quotes from Albert Einstein which is also came out from this film, "If the bee disappears from the surface of the earth, man would have no more than four years to live." This quotes are very meaningful in this movie, which remind all of us human are destroying the nature and global warming is getting serious than ever. This film also remind us about the death of human being, human will be extinct. First of all, I personally like this movie but not very much. I'm not encourage the audiences to watch this movie, but I encourage audiences who really like M. Night Shyamalan movie to watch this film. There is a little disappointment which is the story is too simple. If the story is great, I will give this film 3 out of 4 stars. Besides that, all M. Night Shyamalan's movie are a slow moving story telling type especially this one, that's why some people will think his movie is boring. In a good way, he is trying to make the audiences to create the perfect mood for the movie. Maybe some parts are very lame or very unnecessary but in this film, he done a great job in creating the mood, it sometimes scary and sometimes touching (There is also some part are unnecessary). I like the part where all the worker who become disoriented and started jumping from the top of the building, quite violence actually. For the acting, is quite nice. Mark Wahlberg who starring in the action adventure film in "Shooter", all I can say is his acting in this film is nice. Overall for this film, even though it is not a great film, but still it is quite entertaining in some other way. After his (director) failure ("The Village" and "Lady in the Water" which I also like it), he prove himself again that he's a great filmmaker. Nice try.
